Navigating a Tricky Path to Harmonious Connection

Here is a photo of me in fourth grade in a production of Annabelle Broom, The Unhappy Witch, in the role of a lost little girl named Judy.

Annabelle, the Witch, is in a dilemma--her unconventional thinking will get her in trouble with her superior witches if she follows her heartstrings to help two lost kids, Judy and Peter, who need help from adults finding their way home. As a witch, her job is to scare them! What shall she do?

That memory inspires this post today...

If you're a helper-style person, have you ever noticed how a helper-heart can be more tricky to navigate than a treat to experience?

I relate to Annabelle the Witch. In many ways, I am an unconventional player in life. And my pull to help others is my natural build from childhood. Still, I've had to learn to shape that natural way about me into refinement over my life to serve others better.

In other words, just because something comes naturally to me doesn't mean it's the best choice for the situation. Where someone's safety wasn't an issue, I had to learn to discern whether someone even wanted my help, whether I was the best fit for the situation, and assess timing before I swooped in with my hat to fix troubles!

I share with my MasterPeace-of-Mind™ Ensemble members that if there were a song to pick that best describes my approach to problems, it would be My Way, by Frank Sinatra. And that approach can work for and against me!

When it comes to my way working against me--my unconventional solving of problems to help others wasn't always helpful to them, even if it was coming from a strong heart yearning to be of support—it sometimes worked to hinder connection! Are you familiar with this experience?

But…What happens when that decision to do things my way is redefined so my heart and head work harmoniously?

What might my helper self look like if I intentionally pause before flying in to speak up about what I know or usher someone toward a solution, for example?

My answer is, with my heart and head working in harmony, I set a table of treats to benefit everyone's taste, not just mine, to experience this:

❒ more elegant, authentic self

❒ well-rounded vs. self-focused perspective

❒ more refined spirit in relationship with others

I'm in a more polished, helper energy in my heart-brain connection, vs. pushing energy others may not appreciate.

When you want to help someone, it can feel unnatural to do anything but follow your heart and lend a hand, commit a chunk of time to someone, or help them out of the woods and scary territory, especially if this has been the approach for many years.

What I've found complements the call to help someone beating in my chest is this: A move to include my mind alongside my heart. This way of help may be necessary toward the highest, most appropriate service to someone.

For spiritual inspiration, we might turn to the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, who said, "Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible."

Here's a window into the mind inclusion when the call to help someone from my heart is strong, and my unconventional approach isn't working:

TIMING: Is this the best time to approach the situation?

TRAINING: Am I the most qualified person to address this problem?

TREATMENT: Is this a helping treat that only considers my sweet nature, or does it work to include their perspective in problem-solving?

There's much talk about following your heart and connecting to your authentic self. And to go back to childhood to rediscover where your heart was leading you. That's crucial inner work.

When it comes to helping others, we may be doing them a disservice by not harmonizing the head-heart connection. And just like a lollipop, we may get so stuck in our hearts that we develop an I approach vs. connection with another.

In this chaotic world atmosphere, we must keep gathering unconventional-style people of the helper sort. It will help cool down the unconventional style that is harmful.

Some seasons put all of us in scary woods territory and make us feel lost. And if we are to work in both heartfelt and contemplative energy, we'll transcend beyond what feels natural into intentional, harmonious living through it all.

It may not feel comfortable, but moving outside our comfort zones may also be necessary, where peace for all is our prayer.

The questions and challenge I pose today is this:

In your life, how might you make a difference that brings into harmony the feeling of the heart with the thinking of the head to engage in unconventional helper energy of the highest value?

Where might you find a place to exercise a more evolved, well-rounded, and refined version of your authentic self that brings harmonious energy to difficult conversations or issues at home and in the workplace?

Imagine this playscript in your own life...

Today, you are Annabelle Broom.

Like the children, Judy and Peter, in the Annabelle Broom play, someone in your family feels lost in the scary woods of uncertainty.

1)Their safety is not an issue

2) They are feeling in despair.

3) You are yearning to help them

Again, turning to spiritual teacher St. Francis of Assisi, "Where there is despair, let there be hope."

Your natural feeling from the heart may be to fly in and offer them hope in a therapist's name. Your unconventional thought is to bring them to Laugh Yoga in addition to therapy.

It all feels so right to you. Your heart is singing with satisfaction for a solution you know works for you. It just has to work for them!

As an instrument of peace in their life, what might you contemplate beyond what the heart tells you that may be of higher service beyond your solution?

Considering timing of your approach, training you're qualified to direct them, and treatment in the way of sweetness, does it also include their thinking process and heart to avoid a tricky situation?

After all of this, what melody might you hear to describe your interaction? Is it a happy note that both would appreciate? And in hearing that melody, how might you rewrite it to include harmony?

As you continue exploring this artistic-spiritual approach for a more refined spirit in your relationships, I invite you to a special event beginning October 3rd! PLUS--access to my MasterPeace-of-Mind™ program starting November 1, 2023!

The unconventional way I approach mastering inner peace has people coming alive and shouting, "I love how different it is from anything else out there!!"

The inner results experienced are this: "I haven't connected to that side of myself for a long time."

One more thing...

If your heart is calling you to this journey, I invite you to contemplate this:

πŸƒIs this a journey I am also willing to bring my mind to?

πŸƒIAm I ready to move outside my comfort zone to exercise vulnerability in a safe space and an ensemble fashion with others?

πŸƒAs I learn to build elevated communication skills for steady, strong relationships forward, do I resonate with this quote:

A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others.” ~ Salvador Dali
